First show with Laura and Yenping

The first show with Laura and Yenping was aired last week!

We learnt a lot about the history of Che Guevara from Jorge and found out about a new website called http://www.issues.co.nz from Fraser.  Then, we had a chat with film reviewer Hannah about "Angels and Demons", and with Molly about Refugee Awareness Week.  We ended it off with Tim, a local graffiti artist who is exhibiting some of his work at the Baobab Cafe in Newtown, sharing his views on public art.

It made me wonder: are we making a kind of "public art"?  To answer that question, we decided we had to have a blog so that we can have a better way to listen to the people who are listening to us.

Also, we have some gifts, like People's Coffee, that we can't wait to give away!

We're still tidying up the blog, but check out the podcast and let us know what you think.

  1. Hey Laura & Yen, this was a great show! I caught most of it live last week and it was jam packed with goodness, how do you fit in all those stories/interviews… ? I can’t wait to tune in tonight, thanks guys! :)

  2. Great to see the Community zone ramping up and covering issues far and wide. Graffiti, bombing, graphing, writing, stenciling and tagging are all very loaded terms to do with street art. Clear definitions need to be made about what is what. I don’t count Tagging as graffiti just the same as stencil art is not graphing. when the misconceptions and stigmas around this art are cleared up, people can get on with enjoying the many different street art movements happening now.

  3. Hannah, I’ve often wondered how Laura manages to fit all those stories in too. :) She just manages, I guess.

Dave, I talked about the show with a couple of friends later that week, and they too felt that tagging and graffiti art are not the same. “What about people’s property?”, they asked. I wonder if apart from language, it’s also about the value created by the art – do people in the community benefit from it?

  4. Dire Straits! genius Yenping, love it. long live the power ballad. am rocking out in my kitchen making dinner listening to the show. Loving the love theme… and speaking of love…. the guy who’s from the dyslexic society sounded hot. Laura can you confirm / deny?! cheers for a great show!

  5. Isn’t it funny how you can get an image of an person just by listening to the voice? I was just listening to the Monday night show’s hosts the other day, and made the comment to Laura that they have voices that sound. . . reliable. . . that make me want to call up for advice!
